Car Scratch Remover vs Touch Up Paint: Which Do You Need?
Run your fingernail across the scratch. If your nail doesn't catch, the scratch is only in the clearcoat and a scratch remover or polishing compound will usually fix it. If your nail catches, or you see primer, metal or a different color, the scratch is through the paint and needs touch up paint.
Which product
- Light haze or swirl: polishing compound and a foam pad.
- Nail catches, thin line: touch up paint (2 oz brush bottle) plus clearcoat.
- Stone chips: paint pen plus clearcoat pen.
- Scuffed bumper corner: aerosol basecoat, 2K clear, and fine sanding sheets.
